Spring is definitely on its way. The sun is now shining, the weather is warmer and of course now the appearance of strawberries in the supermarket, there is hope of warmer weather and more lovely fruit to come. After living on frozen berries all winter, and just as we are running out of our strawberry jam, as soon as I saw the beautiful strawberries for 1.50 Euros for a 500g packet, I had to have some. They even went down so well on the weekend that I had to go back for more.
We ate them straight out of the fridge, soaked in Grand Marnier, made mini Strawberries and Cream cakes, and now we have covered them in chocolate. My two favourite things, chocolate and strawberries. What could be better?
1 punnett of strawberries
200 g milk chocolate
Wash the strawberries and leave them to dry on some kitchen paper. Roughly chop the chocolate and place in a heat-resistant bowl. Fill a saucepan with water and bring to the simmer. Then place your bowl with the chocolate over the saucepan and stir with a wooden spoon until the chocolate is melted. Roll the strawberries in the melted chocolate until covered and then place on a plate. Refrigerate strawberries until the chocolate is set – about 30 minutes to an hour.
There really is nothing more simple than chocolate covered strawberries, and they are to die for!
I would love to hear if anyone has anymore recipes for strawberries, as I might just have to go and buy some more….
