Riverford Fruit and Veg Boxes
Although a few weeks ago after we bought our new iMac I had so many posts planned, it didn’t quite work out as planned. I have been so busy working 2 jobs most days, and I am too exhausted to even think about anything more than sitting in front of the TV with my feet up. However, that is not what this post is about. Every few weeks, we HAVE been ordering Riverford’s beautiful Fruit and Veg boxes, since living in London, receiving fresh produce to our door from a farm in Devon every Tuesday.
Each time we order a box, we order the smallest of mixed fruit and veg, suggested for 1-2 people for one week. Now as there are only 2 of us, you would think it would be perfect, however at the end of each week there is always a huge pile up of veggies that we still haven’t used. For us, one box is enough for 2 weeks.
Last week I had planned to make amazing things with all the beautiful produce from the farm. We received a lot of curly kale, beautiful leeks, ramino peppers, courgettes and lots of other lovely things. Time has run away from us and thus far the only thing we really have eaten is the delicious sweet clementines – they are all gone, and I desperately want more.
Despite having grown it in Germany – I never had a chance to try and cook curly kale, so I had to turn to a few cookbooks to find some inspiration. I then came across the Riverford cookbook, along with a great recipe for chorizo, potato and kale fry up with an egg on top. It sounded delicious and I still plan to try it, as we have received more curly kale this week. (Last week S used the stash sautéed with a little garlic and tomato sauce, under some beef sausages)
This week I also ordered their Winter Warmer Meat Box, which came with Beef Brisket, Pork Belly, Lamb Chops, Diced Beef, Chicken Quarters and some beef bones for stock! Their meat is great organic meat – definitely a cheaper and nicer option to some supermarket meat out there. Plus it all came wrapped up in beautiful lamb’s wool, to keep it all cool while it waited on our doorstep. This week I have already made a delicious beef stew with the brisket, simply placed the beef roll into a pot with a bottle of wine, few onions, garlic cloves, and root veggies – then it cooked for about 3 hours in the oven and came out divine!
We definitely love our Riverford boxes, and we have already ordered our box for christmas!

If its taking 2 of you 2 weeks to get through a box – you aint eating enough veggies!
